Three Artists 3 | Wading in a Stream of Timelessness
When does one become an artist? Born or made is a
question I have often asked myself. As a child I
had little self-confidence. There was only one area
where I felt self-assured and that was in my
ability to draw. Creating — whether painting,
sculpting or writing poetry — has been my passion
for as long as I can remember.
During my university years I felt I should pursue a “real” profession. Not a hobby, as in art.
So I graduated with a degree in Counseling Education. When I started graduate school I was drawn back into the field of art and received a Masters of Arts with a focus on sculpture.
My work continues to be my passion. I paint in all media and love to experiment. I sculpt in clay because it is so pliable. There is nothing stagnant about clay — even after being fired it vibrates with life.
Nothing thrills me more than to create a piece that elicits a question or an emotional response from a viewer — myself included.
